The Fritz Leitermeyer Competition

American violinist Hannah Cho won the 2021 Fritz Leitermeyer Competition.

During the first round, Hannah played the Mozart Concerto No. 4 in D Major KV 218. In the second round, Hannah chose to play the first movement of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major, op. 35 - 1, Allegro moderato. In the third round, she played the solo piece, Sonata No. 2 op.22 – III Presto possible, composed by Fritz Leitermeyer.

All performances were outstanding, and in the end, it was Hannah who received top marks. Daniel Froschauer, Director of the Vienna Philharmonic, commented: ‘Hannah played excellently at the audition and I was very happy that she received the 1st prize. She has really improved over the last two years and her achievement is outstanding. All the Academy members played extremely well, and Michael and I were very proud of them.’

The Edmund Horwath Competition

The first winner of the Edmund Horwath Competition was Slovenian clarinetist Andraž Golob.

Andraž’s first round required piece was Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622, followed by his second round personal selection of Luigi Bassi’s Concert fantasy on themes from the opera “Rigoletto”. For the third round he played Fritz Leitermeyer‘s Monologue op. 78 for Solo Clarinet which was filmed and presented on Austrian national television as below.
